Subject: RE: Changing automatic transmission fluid in car

NW Ohio,near Findlay
Long time, do it yourself mechanic here, some of you guys are acting like it is a big deal to change the tranny fluid. At present time, have a 2010 Chrysler mini van with 230,000 miles on it and I have changed it about four times. Also have a high mileage GMC, 1500. In Ohio weather, temperature change is a big deal, moisture will kill a automatic tranny. The biggest problem with most transmissions now is no way to check fluid level without a special dipstick or some you have to jack up and pull a plug on the side of the case. If you don't have a concrete parking area, you never know if you have a small leak, and you destroy the tranny because of low fluid.
Go on You Tube, doesn't take long to find a shop that explains how to mark your engine oil dipstick to check your tranny on some vehicles. Some after market parts stores sell dipsticks to check your transmission.
If I could buy a new truck with a manual transmission, I sure would consider it.
