Iowa | I believe the New Vertical tillage and high speed disks are causing shallow compaction, top 2-4 inches.
I rented a new farm for next year, and fall tilled the corn stalks and I was bringing up hard slabs of ground in areas of the farm. I was ripping with a bullet pointed Case about 8-10 deep, and I know the farm has been Vertical tilled for the last handful of years. I really don't know how well corn roots grow though that kind of shallow compaction. All I know is, it can't be good. | |
