South Central MN | Just kind of curious on the no cover crops or no till, or both combined.
Been doing reduced tillage here and have not had the compaction issues that I though I would, even where full wagons got pulled along the end of the field in the fall. The ground is more firm in those spots in the spring but can't tell any difference in the crop during the season, just looks like all the other rows of the field.
We have a clay loam here and it seems to respond well to a lack of deep tillage, more worm holes and pore space than I have ever seen after 6 years vs. neighbors full tillage fields right next to it. Any ground I worked this fall had some winter rye spread first, and some of that ground hadn't been worked in 2-4 years. Was just trying to smooth out sprayer tracks and badger hills otherwise would have been left alone. | |
