Subject: JD 10.5L vs JD 12.5L

NC SD
Looking at buying a JD 9200 with a 10.5L engine. The engine must have a scored piston or something since it has a lot of blow by and owner says can use up to a gallon of oil a day. Seems like everyone has bad opinions of these engines. The checking I have done I gather they are about the exact same engines as the 12.5L, except the 10.5l has a different crankshaft with a shorter stroke and the 10.5 has one piece pistons and the 12.5 has the two piece. Why is the 10.5 frowned on so much compared to the 12.5? If I buy it and when we overhaul should I put the 12.5 crank in it and get the kit for the 12.5? It’s a 300 horse tractor and that’s what I am gonna use it as, just gonna pull a 40 ft air seeder. Thanks for any opinions!
It’s the quad transmission with the high/low power shift. Pto/3 point.
