Those of you who are old, like me, remember when we were young there was no one on any kind of drugs for behavioral problems. At least none I knew
of.
Now, there are a multitude of mental disorders with more being discovered everyday. Makes you wonder why the big change. I put part of the blamevon drug companies pushing their goods.
My wife has 2 sisters and a brother. All have dyslexia, THe youngest- the brother- the worst.
Dyslexia wasn't "invented" when my wife and her older sister were born. They struggled in some subjects in school, and it bothers me a lot about what some of the teachers called them because of it. Thye fortunately were able to compensate, and sorted it out on their own I guess. My SIL is a LPN, wife a RN.
The next sister is younger, she had a new teacher recognize her dyslexia when she was 6 or 7. Helped her a lot, they were at least able to put a name to the problem. Teacher got her typing instead of writing, she says that helped her a lot.
The son had an old school teacher who was hard on him. Figured he was just lazy and stupid. Never amount to anything. Had a hard time graduating high school grade wise in part because of that. He made sure and sent the same teacher the announcement of his earning a PHD in engineering. Also sent a few copies of the report cards the teacher had made some negative comments on. My brother in law got a great deal of satisfaction doing that. Maybe thats why he was driven to do so well in the first place, hard to say.
My long winded point is this: far as I know, there are no medications that help dyslexia at all. Maybe the pharmaceutical company is inventing solutions to problems that don't exist, not sure. They certainly haven't got around to everything yet though. |
