I've been using crushed concrete for the last couple driveway projects. It packs good and isn't very dirty. I'll put a layer of #8 lime stone on top if I want it to look nicer.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^ X2 Ive used the recycled concrete, as a base, which generally has some trash in it, then I got road grindings to top it all off with...That will conceal any wire or trash that may be in the concrete. Its about the cheapest way around here to have a good solid base. Then like dgnnwo mentioned use the nice limestone to pretty it up. If you use something like #2's in a area that dosent drain very well, it will act like a sponge and create voids that allow for water to remain, then when a load is applied, it will pump up and rut out. So by using the crushed material instead, it will seal it off and remain solid.
