We use fabric here but we get lots of rain, very little frost heaving. I use 3" open and walk it in, then a skiff of 3/4" then fabric and another 4" of 3/4". More if heavy trucks. Add as needed. Build up dirt and pack good under lot with a nice steady slope away from the center all the way around if possible. Otherwise good ditches around edges. Ponded water is the worst thing....James
