Gutted out bathroom in my house in 2017. I used green board around the shower and toilet as well as full ceiling. Earlier, had gutted upstairs above where the bathroom is. Discovered prior hack job they forgot to connect the hose from the vent fan to the spout through the wall. So, damp air had been blowing in the joist space for years and the upstairs wall was wet inside. The blown in cellulose was damp and there were ants in the wall (ugh).

I left things open most of the summer to dry out before that wall went back together. New higher flow fan and metal (not the crap plastic) duct and made sure it was connected. When I did the bath a couple years later, found more sketchy carpentry too but another story.

I put in a timer switch for the fan so its always on for a minimal set time.
