The flaw in the JD design is that the zerk is in the bottom, there's a passage in the casting that takes the grease around to the top of the bushing where it needs to be. But if it's neglected the grease hardens up in the passage and it won't take grease anymore.
Those bushings need to be greased every time the tractor is fueled up, not once or twice a year...
It helps greatly to jack under the frame to take the load off of the pivot pin when greasing. But........... how many would take the time to do it. |
