NW Iowa | Pat I will add to your very good post; going gluten free in the diet has helped a few people with ADHD. Parenting has a little to do with it too. Yelling at a child with ADHD short circuits his or her brain and makes the situation worse. Treating the person like he or she is a failure hurts his self confidence badly. My wife studied about ADHD as part of her early childhood courses. She worked at a large daycare-preschool. When one of the staff could not control an out of control child the child was taken to my wife’s office. My wife would calmly sooth the child and in a half hour the child would be back with the rest of them.
This affliction is very real. The cause is not the fault of the parents unless it is illicit drug related. The responsibility of the parents is to get help for the child and to get training on how to help the child themselves. The old fashioned way of strict discipline is very very wrong. | |
