Subject: RE: And through it all

northwest central Oklahoma
We were China’s number one supplier of soybeans when Trump took office. The United States was part of an agreement called the Trans Pacific Partnership which was to deal with the China trade deficit. Trump pulled out of that thinking he had a smarter way to do things. Now we are the supplier of last resort of soybeans to China. Enforceable trade agreements are how you deal with deficits. Tariffs and then your trading partner retaliating are a piss poor was to do business.

It is the intent of our government for us in agriculture to over produce so the American public can enjoy an abundant affordable food supply. The excess supply needs to be exported so unfortunately we suffer when a politician does some bone headed stunt to piss off our trading partners. We don’t have to like our trading partners to do business with them. A lot of the time we never recover from these bad trade decisions.

And no, Biden didn’t try to fix things. Do you corn farmers think Trump will grant ethanol waivers to refineries like he did in his first term?
