Seen a short video of a guy that built a burn barrel and hooked up an old turbo. started the fire then had to "start" the turbo with compressed air. Once it "took off" did a very good job / complete burn. Obviously not practical, but very entertaining to watch

I'll disagree, internal wood/trash combustion is EXTREMELY promising, and could be practical. The hooligans doing videos now are putting little effort into controlling and optimizing the process, but the combustion and power generation technology is out there in the public domain to easily make a household scale trash/wood electrical generator very practical. NYE engineering built the first turbo barrel and had an idea for power generation, even if misguided.

An ideal burn barrel would have smaller angled openings near the base to create a circular airflow to burn cleaner, whether it's a barrel, or oval oil tank, or round 500 or 1,000 gallon steel tank. The open burn barrel has poor air flow so it smolders for hours when it could burn clean in minutes.
