Nebraska
Russ has a very good reply. The rep makes all the difference as to whether it works well for you or not. But that applies to both Superior and local barns. We sit near some of the best sale barns in the country and not far from several other very good ones. We have found a good Superior rep to work with also. Shrink and trucking advantage every time goes to Superior. You know what your cattle are priced at BEFORE they get on a truck.

Local Barns tend to post a few more extreme highs and all your calves that have blemishes or don’t fit the loads get sold as well. If you have very top end cattle, sometimes I think the video cattle get more commoditized unless they fit the all natural bit. Local barns do have a slight commission and fee advantage here but not enough to offset the shrink.

It takes time to build reputation in whichever avenue you choose to sell in. There is some buyer crossover between the two, but it seems there’s also two different groups of buyers and the video buyers tend to be better at math, so depending on the mood of the market that can be a plus or a minus.

I don’t know that I am an expert on the differences but these were some of my thoughts after using both avenues.
