Subject: RE: Water softener fine vs normal?

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
I have bad water out on the farm. A local company here in Southern Minnesota specializes in products dealing with various water problems.

In my case, the untreated water enters my house in the basement and passes through a device that acts as a large filter but also uses "air" inside the tank to improve the smell. This device regenerates once every 4 days based on an internal timer. The backwash water goes down the drain. I ran mine into a plastic barrel that has a small hole in it. The barrel acts as a buffer and directs the water to a floor drain in the basement. The filter is backwashed and "new air" is allowed to enter into the tank.

The water then goes to one of their water softeners. The water softener regenerates on its own cycle which is based on water usage. It uses a salt brine to clean the media. The backwash from the regeneration also goes to the plastic barrel.

The water line then splits with one branch going to an LP gas water heater. The other branch goes directly to the cold water faucets, toilet, shower etc.

I also have one of their Reverse Osmosis Units for drinking water, coffee, cooking etc. This is connected to the cold water line prior to the softener.

I also have a water softener in the utility room in my shop. It feeds the toilet, sink and pressure washer. I have quite a bit invested in these devices but they do work well.

I would be a bit squeamish about asking for advice on my water at a big box store.
