| first thing go to healthcare.gov...and just run the program (you don't have to leave your name if you dont want to) you can see if you qualify for help or not.
If you don't, or don't want to participate, at least that way you can select (or put high enough income) so it gives you the cost, without help, so that will give you some ideas of cost of premiums from several companies........it you run the cost of premiums and what is offered, you might get your eyes opened......
At least in our state, BCBS is way out of line, compared to other companies. While the other companies may have some limits on providers, you just have to check, BCBS here is now getting into fights with hospitals and clinics, and are not accepted as they once were.
Someone mentioned CHM.....yes.........and I also have them.....it is different, and some places have problems with it, having "no card to run"...biggest downfall of CHM is the medication coverage, but if it is high $$$ the drug companies have programs that you might qualify.....also look at goodrx, rxoutreach, drugs plus cost, needy meds.com,
you have to do your homework, the days of just going to the drug store in town might be over.
just for fun.....say you get a regular insurance policy, and most have a high deductable.....I have seen figures where you could get both the commerical insurance, and to help cover the bite of the high copays and deductables, you can get the gold level on CHM (I think it's still $1000 ""deductable)....if it is being used as a stand alone, might be good idea to get the "brothers keeper", that just in case, the policy will have no cap, otherwise, around $250,000.....sounds like a lot, is a lot, but if things go wrong, you spend that much in a week or less.
