Subject: Something similar with my computers

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
I purchased a new low end Win 11 tower from Wal-Mart last week. It was to be used in my basement lab. My office computer upstairs in my house had been working well.

I unplugged the various cables from the working office computer and inserted them into the corresponding places in the new computer. I turned on the new computer and got the expected startup type questions etc. One of the items was an offer from McAfee for virus protection as well as some other offers. I did not accept them. The new computer seemed fine so I unplugged the cables and plugged them back into the office computer.

When I restarted the office computer I got a whole raft of warning messages about being infected with this and that. It indicated that my subscription to McAfee had expired the day before. I don't believe I ever had subscribed. These popups prevented me from doing anything and sounds similar to what you saw.

Anyway after consulting friends, etc. I agree to go with McAfee. The office computer returned back to normal operation and after some fairly extensive tests I concluded that it was running fine again.

One more time I moved the cables to the new computer and tried it. It too seems to be fine.

This really seems like quite a coincidence that we seemed to have a rather similar situation at about the same time. A suspicious person might suggest that the McAfee folks might purposely infect the new computer to gain their business? I doubt if that would be the case since that would be rather low. Anyway I seemed to be fine until this afternoon.

I lost internet at home today and was wondering if it was due to the above problem. Turns out my Great Nephew was moving corn, running augers and running fans and a circuit breaker kicked out. My internet comes through a device on top of the leg at that farm. So the loss of power was the cause. Now that the breaker is back ON, I have internet again.
