South Central MN | The demand for the direct market produce, eggs, meat, ect. really took off when covid hit and packing plants and the likes shut down, made a lot realize our food supply wasn't as great as it looked. First year raising chickens here, still building up a customer base but so far everyone has been happy with the quality, makes one wonder what is going on with the supermarket eggs.
Had someone looking for meat chickens, guess the people he knew interested would pay $15-20 per, apparently the ones in the store don't have any flavor. (Guess I have a project to work on next spring/summer now...)
Neighbor used to sell a lot of sweetcorn from his place, but unfortunately he passed away last year, so I plan on putting in some this spring and hope to pick up where he left off.
Some farms will have it easier to direct market stuff, we live a mile out of a smaller town here along a state highway, closest (decent) grocery store is 20-30 minutes away. Can't get fresh produce at the DG in our town. | |
