Hennepin, IL | Again I know enough to be dangerous. The way I understand it is the datum has nothing to do with the satellites themselves. It's essentially just a model of the earth's surface/shape which is loaded into the receiver (rover and base both). Since the earth isn't a perfect sphere, this model is required to approximate the center of the earth, from there it can figure its position on the surface. There are multiple datum used and a lot of receivers can switch between different ones. Its my understanding that WGS84 is probably the most common and it won't be affected, only NAD83 is being changed.
