SC WI | Farm in the area had like 40 acres under pivot. Grew cucumbers and made pickles, made a good living for themselves.
ETA: also know of several small dairies(>100 cows) that either buy all their feed, or buy all their hay but have row crop ground in corn/rye.
I get the poster below, my main drive for farming is to buy land. But it’s a long drawn out process that will take a lifetime to achieve.
