Another 870. Ask that question on a trap shooting page and you'll get told to add a zero to your budget. Cheapest quality highly recommended gun is a Browning BT99 at $1,800 or so

I get that, and that might be for down the road if they get serious about competitions. Right now they are just shooting in the field behind the barn for something fun to do.
