mercer county, il | I wasn’t 25, but wasn’t far off. After I got out of the army, I got a decent job.
Went to the same bank id done business with before leaving, and borrowed enough to buy some hay equipment, custom baled and baled every odd and end I could get for myself.
That led into renting ground to grow hay, then buying row crop equipment because I needed to rotate.
You’re not gonna buy ground that won’t cash flow cold turkey. You’re going to need another job to live on. You can still farm with older, cheaper machinery. I paid for my first combine and all its expenses custom cutting beans that first fall. And hauled them all to the elevator with wagons.
And I borrowed and rented what I could. And had the help of friends.
It’s not impossible, but you gotta start from the bottom, have decent mechanical skills, and forget about a life, let alone a vacation. | |
