No next generation to farm. I am mostly a one man show. Load a car, haul to field 17 miles away. Bring out tractor, have a Danish tine springtooth out there, bought a cheap disc *needed some repair* that plan is to leave there. So mostly drive tractor out, not pull equipment with pickup back, forth.
Another 160 stalk chopping, disc/chisel is doable. But harvest is not. Plus as acres increase. Buying newer equipment, not hiring makes more sense. When I combined my beans w/220 flex. It was a full day getting combine converted, set. Then set 5-220 bu, 1, 365 bu, 1-425 bu gravity boxes around then combine, fill, dump often after dark, repeat. Having a Draper 45’ huge grain cart 1500 bu? And two-three semi trucks $40 acre. Just write the check. 100 acres but over double every other year at least.. 6 years that combine…
I could get at least $300 acre rent. So rounding tax, guess stuff 17 years? Break even
Maybe I should just get a Rv grab wife and see the country?
