South Central MN | No, it absolutely would not be good to go cold turkey. We farm organic. Did ngmo for years. Probably 90% of farms no longer have the capability to farm ngmo when you will need mechanical weed control, and there's not enough cultivators on the market to cover the acres.
We quit ngmo on our non-organic acres because ngmo herbicides can't hold the line here anymore. We were having to do almost as much mechanical weed control in our ngmo acres as on our organic ground.
In my opinion, the increased tillage caused by forcing everyone to ngmo and it's resulting erosion is far worse than the chems we apply.
I should be all for it. I'd make a killing with my custom weed zapping, but going all-in without a well-plannned , phased changeover would decimate many farmers. | |
