scmn | Ripping is not much faster than plowing. It just seems way faster after going from 150hp and 6btm to 300hp and 17ft ripper because you got 2X as much done. The thing is you should cover 2X the ground with 2X hp and 2X implement width. Put a 12 bottom behind 400hp and it will about keep up with a ripper.
Midwest row crop farmers act like they put hours on machinery while other areas of the country put more hours on in a month than most midwest guys do in a year. Try covering 3500 acres with a 325hp tillage tractor; I know guys that have done it.
The biggest causes of big farms is stepup bassis and farmers not paying for retirement care while hiding assest from the nursing home. | |
