The biggest reason to me is just the fact that farmers are retiring and putting land on the market. We (Farmers, America in general) need to keep the land cultivated to meet demand, "just a few more acres for me/us to do".
Where are all the guys that are always saying to let a beginner rent some ground?
Simple greed, IMO.
The number of people I've know that pitched about the evil big farmer and that we need more young, new farmers, only to cash out by selling to the same evil, big farmer is dumb.
So what caused this?
