Minnesota | 1. technology, whether from chemistry or machines
2. higher standard of living, we raised most of our own food, burned wood for heat, had 1 car, eating out was a treat 1 time a year. no cell phones, internet, cable tv etc. and you use to could pay cash for a dr visit, no need for health insurance
3. the fed, artificially low interest rates didn't help matters.
4. specialization, use to have many levels of income streams, not as many do now. =need more acres
5. government programs, crop insurance, farm more with less risk.
no one reason, so much has changed since your grandparents, most is for the better, but everything has consequence's.
