SteveMn - 11/13/2024 11:59 Heated / air conditioner cabs, ability to go all day or night in comfort instead of plowing with a stocking hat and five jackets. Once you can do that, then pick up another quarter / farm. In some areas no till, less time working ground and thus more time to run more acres. In my area getting away from plowing corn stalks which takes forever, and using a disc ripper.
Your post reminded me of a neighbor who always said if there had been a law banning headlights on tractors we could have avoided a lot of this.

Did you know my dad?  ;-)  He said sort of said that.  Said lights on tractors were the beginning of farmers covering more acres.  Reading through the posts I think you could combine a lot of them to come to the truth.

How many remember all the ag magazines saying you had to get bigger to survive.  My health insurance was a few hundred dollars when I first got it.  As to constantly repairing machinery, last time I was at the dealership their bays were full of new stuff being repaired.  Then too property taxes are triple what they were when I started.  Less net income per acre, more regulation.
