Ever try and just dust it out on the ground?
I got a granular product a long time ago that I did that with. It took about 3 years but smoked everything but the brome.
It worked well as the slow kill allowed the brome to move into the heavier brush areas.
I'm sure dusting on ground would work -- be hard to regulate rate --The 20G product is made to apply dry as pellets
I've not seen Spike affect crop areas or move very far --I kept it in the sprouts
As far as I know spike moves in to the soil rapidly
I like doing it now "Fall" the trees are still taking in water, nutrients and Spike
Slow death next year or year after
