E.Central MN | Even if you had a supply of hogs, a slaughter plant w/employees to run it, and the financing to operate it, the likelihood of it succeeding is very very low. It's a lot like a small farmer trying to compete against mega operators that can operate land at a loss until the small farmer has gone out of business. In the grain side of farming there are lots of buyers, but that's quite different in the packaged meat business. If you don't have established contracts to start with and aren't able to compete with the big packers then you're quickly going to be out of business if the market looks lucrative to the big players. | |
