| David, thanks for the heartfelt post. I remember when that happened, didn’t realize it has been that long. Your dad was a special man that I respected and looked up to. He was a leader that most appreciated and worked well with. Two stories I will share, I was on the ASA board when Russia was not real friendly but we were always looking for ways to sell soybeans. Your dad led a group of us from the hotel Washington to the Russian embassy to have a face to face meeting with them. We were received well all because Steve had already been in talks with them. No one or no job was to big for him.
The other story happened during the Soy expo which was the annual meeting and trade show before Commodity Classic. The night of entertainment was a comedian who was not very family friendly and had some fairly risqué jokes. The next morning at the general session your dad and the VP got up and apologized for what he felt was improper entertainment for the group. It was something he didn’t have to do but he felt it was important to maintain the integrity of the group.
You brought back many memories of a great man, thank you.
