Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn. | My personal experience was that I was disappointed.
I took the training several years ago so the situation may have changed. I took the very first, the "you don't need to know anything" course. I had limited experience with SMS but had experience with other software packages such as word processors, spreadsheets etc. In fact I had even taught some basic word processing, spreadsheets etc. for a Community Ed class. I felt comfortable with basic computer activities.
What I found was that my fellow participants had what I would call "a fair amount of experience" with the SMS package. I soon became lost in the dust so to speak since they were asking about situations that pertained to them which due to my lack of experience I was not able to relate to. I was left floundering down at the shallow end of the pool while they were learning to do high dives.
The instructors worked with their questions which really didn't help me at my level. I can't fault the instructors since I've probably been guilty of doing the same when I was on the other side of the desk. Again it is extremely difficult for an instructor to accurately determine the level and background of the participants.
My advice is always to take the "beginning" level of any coursework even if you think you may be capable of a higher level course. I would explore the videos and do what you can and then possibly take one of the courses. SMS can be extremely powerful. |
