Pittsburg, Kansas | I do.
But it is very sporadic. Being on a low carb way of eating most of the time I do not worry about it. I have checked it thousands of times and pretty well know where I am at.
That said, there will be times I test it very often. Sometimes up to a half dozen times a day if I am making some change and I want to see how it is working out.
For example when we spent a month in Indonesia scuba diving we were staying at a resort where our food choices were very limited compared to what we eat at home. I would guess we were eating around 100 grams of carbs a day there as opposed to the under 20 we try to maintain at home. But we were also getting some pretty good exercise for a couple hours a day under water scuba diving sometimes in current. So I was curious how my blood sugar was responding to the higher carb but higher exercise environment. Turned out it was not too bad but I could certainly tell my blood sugar spikes were higher after meals as we ate a considerable amount of fresh fruit that we could have avoided and do avoid at home (it was delisious).
But back to the finger pricking. I will usually check it two or three times a week (just to make sure something weird is not going on) but if I happen to eat out and eat something different or some other reason may check it three or four times a day for several days in a row. Ocassionally (on rare occasion) I will purposely eat something high in carbs or sugar. Say for example a piece of birthday or wedding cake. I will check my blood sugar about three times after. To see what my peak is, To see how long it stays elevated (giving me an idea of how bad or good my insulin resistance is) and later to make sure it goes back down to base line.
More than you probably wanted to know. I have pricked my fingers a LOT over the last almost 40 years.
