Pittsburg, Kansas | I have linked to a few of interviews or programs that featured Dr Mary Newport (a medical pediatric doctor) and her personal story about her 51 year old husband having Alzheiumers. I may have even linked this particular one before. I will leave a link here to her interview with Dr Bret Scher. It is the most in depth interview that takes her story all the way through her journey and what things worked and did not work to improve her husbands situation. In my opinion it is a story that is both interesting and well worth taking the time to listen to it. There are some take home messages to help people with demintia. She has written three books on the subject.
I think for anyone over the age of 50 this is a must watch just to learn about something everyone hopes they never have to deal with, either with their own health or with someone they love and have to deal with. I had an uncle (by mariage) with it my aunt had to deal with for many years before it got so bad he eventually had to go to a rest home because she could no longer care for or keep track of him.
As a long term diabetic it is a subject of interest to me because diabetes is one of the risk factors that increase the chances of getting Alzheimers. Seems like it is something like four times as likely.
She gives us some hope.
