I ripped every end row on the farm last fall, I didn’t note any improvement in yield this fall.

^^^^^^^^^ I did some experimental ripping like this. About killed my tractor trying to dig 13" deep or more. I could see the water getting away better over winter, but it still didnt yield any better this fall. I did the deep ripping side by side to about 8" of chisel plowing with straight points. The chisel was just as effective for less fuel IMO. I have had about 8 years of notill before this trial, and decided that the ground was getting too hard, so the chisel came out of storage.
