Coldwater, Michigan
UncleSpud,

Playing the insurance game got me in trouble about a month ago. Seems the old way of dong things with diabetic supplies wasn't working well anymore. Instead of the medical supply firm that I had been working with from Florida (where I had been sent when I got my "Free Style Libra 14day), I was told that as of October 1st I needed to be getting my supplies from a local Pharmacy. Except the local Pharmacies hadn't received notice until October 1st. Since I was trying to get things in order prior to Oct 1st, the local Pharmacies kept sending me to the medical supply form California/Florida, etc. As of Oct 1st the local pharmacies suddenly knew what I was talking about and cooperated with my need for supplies.

My brother and a cousin, and friends, have Dexcome 7's. The Feestyle Libra 3+ does have the ability to talk with the insulin pumps. The sensor last for 15 days (up from 14 days). The only time you scan your sensor is to start a new one each 15 days. The reader, or your phone, if using the app will read as far away as 33 feet, and it checks BS once every minute and reports it to your app/reader. Medicare part B covers the entire cost. The sensor is about the size and thickness of a penny. They recommend not swimming with it for more than 30 minutes at a time, or to more than 3 feet deep. I am sure those could be changed if you were to wear the tape.

You only have to open the app, or turn your reader on to get you current BS. No touching your sensor(anymore) with your reader/phone each time you check your BS. Just read it off your reader or turn your phone on. It will be there! My 14 day had to be touched to the sensor each time you wanted a reading.

Both Dexcomes and the Freestyle are in the running to be the reader of choice. They are both good tools for diabetics!
