on beans that are really dry even a strong blast of air can shatter them.. I notice on mine that about 50% throttle is about all it takes to push the beans in without doing this.
anything that mechanically moves these plants can break those pods. double edged sword and all..
that said I do not ever want to cut beans without air assist.
