cropsey, il 61731 | I don't care what the coops do. I'm not looking to force businesses to change except with my dollars. That's the bottom line. If the local application company is charging enough for me to buy a reasonable sprayer and I can do the work, I'll own a sprayer. I understand they charge as much as they do because their service is in high demand. Good for them. Like you said, if local elevators are way off on basis and storage and it pencils to build bins (or even take down and reassemble used bins) and truck the grain elsewhere, that is what we should do with our time. We are in business to earn a profit and we really can't rely on or blame other businesses for our success or failure.
It can get pretty bad - I remember someone saying it wasn't fair that we hog farmers get to use manure. You can't have an entitlement mentality in business. As farmers, we get gov't handouts, but I think we sold a chunk of our business to the gov't (along with our souls) to get that. I'm not sure that was a good idea. | |
