south central WI | I'm in the pull type camp. We are looking to switch to a selling propelled, but get along fine with a pull type, and we run 1500 acres of corn and 1000 of alfalfa. I would suggest a bigger sprayer, 1200 gallon tank and 80 or 90' booms if you have a tractor to pull it. A
small tank means more filling and time wasting, which will make you wish you went SP. We've pull our 1200 gal with 130-140 hp fine here. At 12 gpa, you can cover 100 acres a load. My dad ran it at 7-8 mph, but I switched nozzles this year and ran 11-12 mph, which was around 100 acres an hour. You could get all the acres covered in a day, 2-3 days if you fill off a garden hose. I've seen plenty of used ones in the $10k range. They're easier to diagnose and cheaper to fix.
We have a Hardi. It's a good machine, but parts have to come from the dealer, they're not common Fittings like the rest. It has the 5500 control box in it. It adjust pressure when you change speed, so when you slow down for a rough patch or near the headland, it doesn't over apply. You can also speed up and it just raises the psi to apply more.
If you only have 50 acres, keep the extra cash and use it in more important areas, or just as a cash reserve. | |
