String theories require a minimum of ten dimensions in order to work. We are told that the other seven dimensions are, in a sense, "curled up" and are not detectable by us. Well, maybe so. But I think string theories have sucked a lot of oxygen out of the room over the last five decades and given little in return. Practitioners should either start making testable predictions or admit that they're doing nothing useful. | |
