E ND | Seems like a lot of work, depending on what you're trying to do and the volume. How do you feed hay today? In the bunk or in a ring?
If you're baling your own stalks and can control the quality and not bale up too much stalk and dirt and get mainly husk it's probably a good way to get them roughage and some protein via essentially limit feeding the QLF, will still have refusals no matter how you feed it if you're not grinding it.
If you're buying stalk bales someone else put up going for volume over quality, I'd say just feed them in rings and let them sort it out and push the refusals out for bedding as they'll eat a decent amount of it. Feed the hay how you normally would and let them consume the QLF through the lick tank.
Someone should build a skid steer or loader mounted syrup dispenser with a hydraulic or electric valve to drive along and treat a row of bales one at a time without handling the product by hand dispensing a consistent volume. | |
