Subject: RE: Decision on buying a sprayer

Coles County, Illinois
I've been spraying for almost 50 years and have seen a lot of guys buy sprayers and sell them after a couple years. Broadcasting preplant chemicals without auto-steer takes a certain calm but extremely alert concentration. What I would recommend is starting with a pull type with a budget of around $8000 and only do post applications. This will allow you to see what your logistical challenges are and not cause extra labor during planting.Try to get a boom 3X your planter width. A 2X boon is workable but the first pass around the field usually requires splitting the Bulk rows so the planter operator better be pretty good.
