Eastern Shore of MD | Last couple of years we have aerial seeded a mix of crimson clover and a grass (wheat/barley) into standing soybeans prior to harvest the last few days of Sept. In spring we will terminate the grass and let clover go to flower (if we have enough soil moisture) then either plant corn green or work clover down as a green manure and plant. Strip till into the clover early spring is something that sounds interesting to me but we have not done that yet.
We are very dry now like most of country but clover has germinated and is there but will not get much growth till spring.
Can not really give a N credit # as we will apply poultry manure then pull Pre Side Dress Nitrate test to determine N side dress rate.
Edit to add. Vetch is fairly popular here as a cover crop and seems like it supplies more N to corn but we do not use as we are small grain seed growers and can not risk contamination.
