| I'm sure different regions have different results, but I have planted corn into rye the last 2 or 3 years. Last year just about bit me. I didn't terminate the rye until I planted corn, and then we got 10 inches of rain over a month or so and it was cold. That combination created N deficiency in the corn. Looked horrible for several weeks, but ended up yielding 298 across the scale on 124 acres. This spring I terminated the rye sooner and put out some early N.
Bottom line it's doable, at least in our area.
Agree with other posters, don't let the rye get too tall, and don't short the corn on early N. | |
