| If you’re in the part of Indiana that gets lake effect, annual ryegrass can be a good fit. There’s usually rain to get it established, and snow to provide winter protection. Souther Indiana is probably a good fit for it also. Central, I would guess maybe not as good. Annual ryegrass is way less antagonistic to corn than cereal rye. Has great suppression of nematodes. Fibrous root mass. Less top growth than rye. It’s nice to plant into.
Otherwise, brassicas and legumes can be established. They usually won’t amount to much unless you’re farther south, but a guy still gets the participation trophy - if that is something that’s needed to satisfy expectations of others who have a voice/influence.
Not a lot of options imo.
