swmn | I used a 400 gallon 3-pt for a couple years on the back of a JD4555 and saw way too much compaction.
Bought a JD6000 self-propelled and have used it the last 12 years. It can be a bumpy ride and the tank might be smaller than what you're looking for, but it has been nearly maintenance free and hardly leaves a footprint in the field. Should be able to find a decent one for around $5000 (check for slop in the booms and rust at the bottom of the cradle). Not most people's first choice, but not a bad combination of self-propelled and inexpensive.
