| I farm about 50 acres in KS and farm with my uncle who farms a few hundred. We’ve been having a hard time with getting our crops sprayed on time and are struggling with the cost associated with using the large applicators around us due to their markup on chemical. We were discussing buying a sprayer and are kind of stuck. We don’t want to buy a pull type because that ties up a tractor during haying time and we don’t have one to spare during that time. I’d leaning towards something like a 4440 Spra Coupe and have seen some around $30k. If we end up doing that would it be smart for us to split the sprayer 50/50 cost wise? My uncle is wanting to slow down and any new ground rented will be rented by me. But the cost is what scares me as I only have 50 acres that I farm myself. Of course I could charge him a fee but I wouldn’t want to up charge the chemical so I probably couldn’t make the payment just off the application fee. If we split it should we start an LLC and have that LLC charge us a set cost per acre and make the payment that way? Just trying to figure out the smartest way to move forward. Thanks in advance. | |
