Subject: SmartStax and crop insurance online survey

Oswald No-Till Farm Cleghorn, IA
Greetings,

I do partake in ag surveys now that they generally pay something. They call and ask if I will do a "20 minute" online survey.... which for $20 I will do when I get a few minutes. I figure I learn what is going on in the background.

The one I just completed was rather interesting to me. It really focused on SmartStax seed.

It seemed like the premise was that if you planted 95% of a crop unit to SmartStax, there would be a crop insurance option to buy up your APH by 10%. It appears that you would then be able to get your APH protection closer to recent yield history but it would cost something in the process.

The survey seemed to be trying to find the sensitivity where a grower would plant more acres in SmartStax and/or manage crop insurance differently when doing so.

I won't say how/what things this stirred in my head.

My question is: "What say you?"
