SE MN | I would bet that 90% of the options I have bought were profitable at one point.
Options have value to me in that they allow me to feel comfortable hedging a significant amount of bushels at a good price instead of feeling like I need to wait for higher prices just in case.
I do agree that simply taking a futures position instead of an option on a spec move is more likely to pay in the long run. But when hedging they work for me.
Edit to add: I also sell a fair amount of options. That has worked well also.
