You can't rebuild those engines as cheap as you think. In many cases Deere is the only mfr of the engine components and they are insanely high.
If it's your only machine you don't have time to wait for them to rebuild it.
That's if you cd even find a dealer to do it.
Reman is the name of the game nowdays.
Glad I'm not Deere, I HATE reman engines with a passion. You never know what you're buying, and no way I'm putting my name on it without knowing what's inside there. I'll keep doing our rebuilds in house...and thankfully, I can build engines MUCH cheaper than Deere sells their reman for from what I've seen here and heard locally.
Now, I'll also add, another reason they push the reman so hard is they don't have the time and manpower to do a rebuild, along with machine shops getting harder to find. There's a up and down side to everything, my way isn't perfect either, as it's slower, and I have to wait on the machine shops. But, I'll also figure out how to keep you running if you lose and engine in season too, so there's flexibility there a bigger dealer may not have.
