Illinois | +1000. I usually find that the newer stuff costs me much more per acre to operate than the older alternatives. I have plenty of both. The depreciation costs on new machinery is a killer, but unfortunately we have to have some of it to remain competitively productive.
It’s a balancing act, and I find a good mix of newer and older items seems to be the best overall economic choice. Tractors alone? Older for sure. Combines? Tough one because of productivity, but older ones are our cheapest per acre. Tillage? Older! Trucks? Newer ones are cheap (except for the KW and Pete fancy crowd), so run newer.
Equipment really should be looked at as a necessary evil to produce whatever you produce. Never look at equipment as an investment.
